Jonesville catfish sets pond record

Gary Evans set a new record last week when he caught a 50.26-pound catfish in Rock Hollow Catfish Pond on Center Road in Jonesville.

“It’s the largest fish ever caught in that pond,” said Evans. “The previous record was 48 pounds.”

Evans was assisted by his nine-year-old fishing partner Grady Brown.

Evans said he caught the big catfish from Spot 19 which brought him luck, as that was his number when he raced at Friendship Speedway back in the early ’90s.

Rock Hollow is a catch-and-release pond, so the whopper was put back in the water after he was weighed and had his photo taken.

“It’s back up for grabs,” laughed Evans.
